Lou Reed: The Biography

'The idea to write this book came shortly after Lou's death in 2013. But I hesitated. It's not something he would have appreciated, and I wouldn't have written it when he was alive. My book doesn't always portray Lou as he wanted to be seen. Aspects of his sex life, his drug use, and his cruelty that he later felt ashamed of and would have liked to have forgotten are discussed in great detail. But so are his generosity and goodness, his talent, his vision, and his genius. So while this book doesn't show him as he wanted to be seen, I show him as he was. And, I'm sure, as Lou himself knew he was. It's a complete and intimate portrait of Lou Reed as an artist and as a human being, the kind of portrait that someone of his class deserves.
