Mother Of Pearl

Mother of Pearl. 1956 will be a decisive year for several residents of the small town of Petal in the deep South of the US. Valuable Korner, the fifteen-year-old daughter of a prostitute, falls in love with Jackson McLain. When Valuable turns out to be pregnant (with Pearl) and Jackson and his parents leave the town, she seeks support from Joody Two Sun, a somewhat eccentric clairvoyant woman. She also meets Joody's lover, Even Grade, a 28-year-old black man who grew up as an orphan. Valuable, also an orphan in a sense, finds a companion in Even Grade. Both are searching in their hearts for the family life that they themselves had to miss.
