Preachers in word and deed: Dominicans in Flanders in the twentieth century

The Order of Dominicans, also known as Preachers or Preachers, will celebrate its eight-hundredth anniversary in 2016. At the request of the Flemish Dominicans, the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the KU Leuven has compiled a book focusing on the recent history of the Dominicans in Flanders. Researchers from the faculty have carried out original work on figures and activities that characterise Flemish Dominican life in the twentieth century. The common thread in the book is therefore the proclamation or preaching 'in word and deed', which is part of the essence of Dominican life. Whether it concerns spiritual, theological, cultural, social or political issues, the Dominicans have, up to today, always demonstrated what is contained in their motto 'Veritas': they are restless seekers of God who, throughout time, have dedicated their lives to the ever-rediscoverable truth. The Preachers have given shape to the story of Dominic in their own way in the history of church and society in Flanders. This book aims to provide a reflection of this.
