Back to Walden
Money doesn't buy happiness, unless your name is Ruler Marsh. He is an untouchable money-grubber in a merciless world. Ruler Marsh and his family were once greatly wronged. Today, Ruler is not only very old, he is also the richest man in the world and takes revenge by making banks fall like dominoes. Until he himself is made to falter.
One morning, Ruler Marsh is called to leave everything behind. The voice leads him from Manhattan to the Brussels Hilton. On his quest to find the origin of the voice, we meet a dealer in very special 9/11 souvenirs, Frederik van Eeden, Laurel and Hardy (two retired Guantanamo torturers), Steve Fossett, who was thought to be dead, and the whore Kitty. The latter flees with Marsh to Hotel 't Paradijs in Wallem, her Kempen birthplace.
While Ruler Marsh is being searched for feverishly, the bank and stock market crashes rage across the plasma screens. Ruler Marsh doesn't care anymore. Little Lotte, Kitty's sister, brings him to his senses. At the Duivelsplas in Rosenven in Wallem, he learns that in order to save the world from destruction, he must return, not to Wall Street but to Wilmington, where he made the wrong choice as a boy.
