People
Fifteen percent of Belgians live below the poverty line. That's one and a half million people. That's a lot. And yet we rarely see those people. We read the statistics often enough, just like the studies, the reports, the analyses and explanations. But the people themselves, they don't tell their story that often. Many 'on the other side' don't even seem to notice them when they cross their path in real life. This book does something about that. In nine stories we are thrown into the middle of just as many lives, lives of ordinary people who have a harder time than others to make ends meet financially. Often hard stories, but also endearing, gripping, surprising, and always: real. In a literary, direct form, Tom Naegels and Marjorie Blomme give a voice to the people.
