People try to supplement the image of the biblical Jesus in all sorts of ways. For example, old manuscripts are found that would show that Jesus was in India or belonged to the Essenes. They have a lot of authority, especially in esoteric circles. People also appeal to new revelations in which Jesus directly makes known what he meant. Reender Kranenborg critically examines these sources and revelations. In this book he discusses, among other things, the well-known fifth gospel of Rudolf Steiner, the Gospel of Aquarius and the Book of Mormon. Are these manuscripts that have been found really that old; are they and the revelations authentic? Do they really shed new light on Jesus?
