Night of Flames: A Novel of World War II

Set in 1939, this moving tale of love and determination details the lives of a married Polish couple and the violence, destruction, and resistance they become involved in when Germans invade their country. Separated by the war, Anna Kopernik, an assistant professor at a Warsaw university, and her husband Jan, a captain in the Polish cavalry, must find their own way in a world where everything they ever knew has been swept away. Having escaped to England with the remnants of the Polish army, Jan is given a chance to search for his missing wife when he is asked by British intelligence to return to his homeland in an undercover mission.
