Wordpress Blog vs. Your Own Online Store

In the past (and still today) Wordpress was the way to share your ideas and/or experiences with the internet. Nowadays all online shopping platforms have a blog where you can write to your heart's content.

When I started selling second-hand books via Amazon and bol.com 3 years ago , I had a blog on Wordpress that I linked to my store on bol.com. I knew that you could also sell products on Wordpress with a fair amount of knowledge. However, I had 2 problems: first, I did not (and do not) have a fair amount of knowledge of this and second, you also had to have your own online platform? In other words, 2 times the money: once money for a blog and also money for the necessary plug-ins and who knows what else.

I then started searching the internet for an online platform that could sell products and had a blog. And that was also understandable for a layman (nerd) like me. I found this one 1 month ago and since 10 days the first 1200 premium second-hand books are on it. The rest, a small 5000 books, follow step by step. The King of Books was born!

This is not easy because in the meantime sales I on bol.com between 12 and 25 books daily. The advantage I have now is that everything is in one place and that with my blog I still have an average of 20 daily visitors. Of course this is not a large number, but in this short time I think it is not bad. And this indicates that there is still quite a bit of room for growth.

All well and good I hear you say, but have you sold a book yet. Proud as a peacock I tell you that 1 book has already been sold via The King of Books. Gene vette, agreed. It is normal that you have more confidence in Amazon and bol.com than I do in The King of Book and therefore rather buy from those 2 giants than from the small online entrepreneur. However, the service and prices are the same.

In my previous career as a (top) salesperson in the fashion world I always put service first and only then price . Now tell me: what good is a cheap price if you didn't get your purchase on time and/or the quality isn't the same as promised? No, believe me, I as a small online entrepreneur have to be able to provide at least as good a service as those 2 giants or I have no reason to exist.

Score for bol.com I with my "Performance" 9 out of 10!

And the customers give me a score "Reviews" that on "Delivery time" , "Product information" and "Delivery" all above 9 out of 10 lie!

A big advantage of having your own online store is that you can send your customers and subscribers an email with surprises at regular intervals :-)
