Auschwitz and Birkenau

World War II

It had been on our bucket list for a while and if Covid-19 hadn't been a party pooper, we could have done this trip in 2019.

But postponement is not cancellation and with a 1-year delay we were able to tick a box on our list last month.

Historians

Christophe Busch and Frédéric Crahay were our guides and we couldn't have wished for better. Christoph is the director of the Hannah Arendt Institute and Frédéric is the director of the Auschwitz Foundation .

After the impressive excursions we had made in Auschwitz and Birkenau , we had a lecture of about 2 hours after dinner by both gentlemen. I thought I already knew something about World War II but now I realize that I only had a 20% knowledge of this history.

After Auschwitz and Birkenau, I started reading avidly about the events during that period.

I can only speak for myself, but if you don't have the opportunity to make that trip, by all means read books about it.
